Our Inspections

Many homeowners use pesticides around their homes, but there are health hazards. What steps can we take to limit our exposure to pesticides? There are a number of steps we can take to keep ourselves safe.

This might seem like an obvious first step, but it’s very important to make sure we have the appropriate clothing. Avoid exposing your skin. Wear long sleeve shirts and good gloves. Keep in mind though, that if you normally like to use leather gloves, the pesticide will remain on the leather. If you continuously use them, you will expose yourself to the pesticide every time. As annoying as it might be to do this, the best thing to do is to throw them away after handling the pesticide. Other leather items, like watch straps, will also do the same, so if you value them it’s best not to wear them while using pesticides.

When mixing or handling the chemical, do it outside of your home, or in a well-ventilated area. Ventilate the area really well after application also.

We get so many warnings about this, but the reminder to always keep any type of pesticide out of the reach of children is very important.

Certain types of plants act as natural deterrents to some bugs and insects. It may be a good idea to try planting some of these around your home. In this way, you are taking some preventative measures to limit the need for pesticides.

When it comes to the home-building process, certain kinds of materials can be used that would act as a deterrent for termites or carpenter ants. This greatly reduces the need for pesticides used to treat them.

As we have seen, we can take definite measures to keep safe when using pesticides. Please don’t hesitate to contact us for more information.
